hallo hallo! i am still having trouble sleeping (today up at 3am) so.. i decided to be very lazy this morning (almost as good as napping, but napping wasn't working). i made coffee.. read the paper at home.. watched the morning news.. chatted with my roomie.. and then came here..
and now, i'm gonna take a LONG lunch with my friend priya who's visiting for the weekend. sorry :) back soon... good luck with your day. and stop skipping lunch!! it's the 2nd most important meal of the day :)
when i got to work (15 minutes after i planned on getting here), i found out 1. the place where they hold my blood has been calling to see when someone was going to pick it up for a while 2. eun called in because her nanny called in sick so i'd be doing everything alone (again)
so, i've been doing stuff since i got here. but i'm wearing a skirt and i'm in a good mood and everything else (the actual blood processing) has been going really well. in fact, it might be ready for me to play with!
and i've taken to skipping lunch lately . . . not on purpose - it just doesn't fit into my schedule when i'm hungry and then i forget when i have more time . . . today might be one of those days.
so i've been listening to my ipod on random lately (i used to listen to specific playlists or genres), and i've made one very important discovery: celine dione has to go! i didn't realize peter had downloaded so many celine dione songs . . .i need to remember to erase them as soon as i get home!

yay, it's friday! i'm so looking forward to this weekend :)
i want to get tons of sleep, and then i want to do girly stuff like go shopping and get a manicure. i finally want to go see that colombian movie, maria full of grace. and then on sunday, i guess i'm going to have to organize my closet and drawers: put away my summer clothes, dig out the sweaters and crap.
i saw something's gotta give last night. such a cute movie :) although i still don't understand why amanda peet would want to have sex with jack nicholson - it's disgusting! he's old enough to be her grandfather! gross!

i'm back now. i haven't seen far. 911 but i want to. i voted for kerry on my absentee ballot. it's funny b/c when i sent it in, i really was just voting for him to be against bush. but now that i've seen kerry speak at the prez debates and seen all of them campaigning in general, i actually really like him and want HIM to win.. as opposed to not wanting bush to win.
megan sounds like you are working so hard :) so are you happy in general at this place? do you think ig was a good decision?
technically, i'm not registered to vote yet. there is a stand set up in the hospital so i'm going to do it today or tomorrow . . .
as for who i'm voting for. frankly, i really don't know a whole lot about kerry's campaign but i can't handle electing bush again. i have a friend in the army reserves that has now been told he'll be shipped out sometime next year (i think he has a more exact day, but i'm not sure) i talked to his gf last night - they got engage a couple of months ago and are now rushing to plan the wedding for february - i'm guessing so he can get married before he gets shipped out. why are we fighting this "war" again? how did we conclude we HAD to invade iraq and take sadam out of power? and did you know that you guys could turn me in for what i'm writing right now and have me investigated by the government?
did you get it on netflix? i wanna see it. yea, i'm not too excited about the upcoming elections. i didn't watch the debate last week, but jessie did. afterwards, she was like, "ok, i'm moving to canada for 4 years; i don't want to live in a country that's run by either of these two". exciting, huh?

so, i finished up the analysis BY MYSELF! well, just gathering the data . . . but still, it's likean $80,000 machine! and at the end, there is your usual fill this container empty this contain kind of thing . . . so, i thought i'd be a good girl and take those steps seriously. so, the thing to empty wasn't very full - that got left the way it was. the thing i needed to fill is really complicated to open. once i got it open, i found out that it did not have enough fluid for the next person - so i should fill it. well, the place to refill it is a box with a bag of liquid - like a box of wine. and it was basically empty. so, i got to drag the next box and try to open it. and then spill. and then fix. and then spill. basically, i was an idiot. but i FINALLY got it working and filled the container - just as the next person was walking in. THANK GOD! because it's one of the guys that works in my lab (this is a community machine) and he has a vaguely holier than though air about him soo . . . i was really excited to be all finished by the time he walked in AND have nicely followed procedure :)

guess what guess what?? i only have one meeting today. which means... i have ALL day to do real work (and BLOG). i'm so excited.. i hate my schedule on days where the outlook thing is just blue all day long (which means full).
another random tidbit. i watched american top model yesterday for the 2nd time. the first time b/c i was bored.. the 2nd b/c i wanted to see how the ugly annoying indian girl was doing. she was not that attractive and annoying b/c she kept saying that she was doing this for all the indian women.. breaking into the modelling world. but there are REALLY attractive and great indian women that could actually do that. she was just not so great looking and a lil thuggish.. i don't like indian people that act black... i like indian people that go black.. cuz i am one :)
anyway... so she was annoying and is always trying to be "over-indian" in these shows. it just seemed like a mockery... soo.... she SUCKED in this episode. her pics came out bad.. she had weird answers to questions.. and they KICKED her off. yay! for two reasons.. she deserved to go.. and now i don't have to watch that show ever again.
and reading the paper. i'm sure you know about the shortage of flu shots and that iraq hasn't had WMDs since the 90's; but did you know that there's some silly company that's trying to sue everyobody that uses the word entrepreneur in their company name, website, name of publications, etc? how can you trademark a common word?? so silly. . .
so, i forgot my id today. which not only gets me onto the floor, but into the lab. like, can't go to the bathroom without it. so, i haven't. which is no big deal. but now that i am finished, i suddenly have to pee so bad!
but it's all good. 'cause i'm leaving :)

the study began today - so i got a lot of blood this morning - an hour later than planned. then, theoretically, eun will be working through the blood with me (as in, half the amount of work) but she wanted to be there today to watch the nurses administer the virus. soo . . . it was just me and it took me two hours.

yea, we read the book. well, the book is like 5 pages of reading, and then basically just a huge list of differents foods and what you should eat/avoid.
basically, it's like no carbs for 2 weeks. that's phase 1 of the diet, and you're supposed to lose 7-13 pounds during that phase. then in phase 2 you start to add carbs back slowly, but none of the starchy carbs. . .just more veggies and fruit and stuff. they had a couple of recipes, too. so the 3 of us can take turns cooking for each other, and it'll be good if we're all doing it!
oh yea, and during phase 1, the strict no-carb phase. . .no alcohol! so. . this should save me and jackie some money :)

tomorrow starts my big study! 5 patients will be housed in the hospital for 11 days and have about 35 mL of blood drawn every other day. i get to take all the blood, separate out the white blood cells, use some of them for one anaylsis technique and freeze the rest for experiments to be done after the study is finished. its really important i do everything right because this is like the first time i'm being trusted with truly irreplaceable blood (these people are getting paid $1200 for their time and blood - so its not a study we can go oops! on)
as for chang's - i'm not officially finished until 10/15. technically, they can call me in saturday and sunday night this weekend - but they probably won't. or at least i probably won't answer :) i've given them my cell phone # multiple times, but they still only right down my apartment number - if i happen to be out when they call . . . sucks to be them ;) management doesn't seem to be bitter - but i'm a hostess! i should be easily replaceable!

so, she kidnapped the little girl and got caught. then, she tried to not be taken back to LA, but was going to be. so, her brilliant bf said set fire to some piece of paper he had in the back and distract the driver. well, they did and he was . . . into an accident. the driver was knocked out and the bf was hurt so badly he couldn't move - but kim was fine (shocking) and she radioed for ambulance. then ran into the woods . . . where she was chased by a cougar and then caught in a snare until a guy found her and saved her. he wanted to take her to the ranger's station but she said no so they went to his place instead - where she told him about the nuclear bomb. so, he showed her his bomb shelter he built since he's crazy and thought we were going to be attacked. then he fakes an attack to get her to stay until she realizes it and asks politely to leave and he let's her - armed with some supplies and a gun to get back to the highway. which she does and get's a liquor store owner to let her use his bathroom even though it's closed (this is after the bomb has gone off and she thinks her dad is dead) then, a desparate guy starts banging on the door to be let in to get supplies (convenience store stuff - water, bread, etc) and the owner won't so he breaks down the door. the desparate guy knows about the bomb and is taking his 7month pregnant wife to the mountains. then, he attacks the owner to let him get food, so stupid kim pulls out the gun and fires a shot into the air. before, the owner had called the cops so they show up and start bugging the wife left in the car so the desparate guy freaks out and walks up to kim to get the gun back. she just stands there until he effortlessly takes it from her hands. then the owner lunges at him and get's shot. seriously . . . she's an idiot. she single handedly has injured her bf and a cop, sent a man to prison and possibly killed another guy. and she remains intact!
i like it better now that i know it's not necessarily going to be cold tomorrow just because it's cold today. i hate having to bring a jacket with me everywhere i go. i know i'm from miami and i'm weird, but that's my two cents on the weather. . .

i was actually productive yesterday when i got home from work! jackie and i went to the grocery store and got enough food for the next couple of weeks or so (we don't eat at home much). then i unpacked, cleaned the bathroom, spoke to my girls in miami for a while. not a bad evening at all.

im not the biggest fan of this weather only because yesterday was so hot, and then today is crisp - so i dont know if i should bring a jacket or not! in a few weeks when i know ihave to bring a jacket everywhere will be better for me :) esp if i can stay at devs and walk to work in 5 min :)
we went to best buy yesterday, window shopped for a video camera for my parents that we can buy today for our trip. my dad said ok for the one i wanted this morn so ill go buy it after work. he got a 21 in flat screen computer monitor yesterday :) its awesome! waaay too big for his tiny shoebox room, but still very exciting. itll be fun to watch movies on such a good monitor...

jack - nina killed her contact after she got his info out of him and bargained to go to the next place to figure out the next link. their plane got shot down by american military super secret team and nina took jack hostage. then she conned the president into giving her immunity for her furture crime of killing jack - he said ok. then jack captured her after she told them the info. blah blah blah. a couple of dead terrorists, they thought they found the bomb but it was a decoy, then they found the real bomb but its a super special trigger that can't be turned off (umm, why don't more people who set off bombs use this amazing trigger???) so he had to fly it to the desert and let it explode so that it wouldn't hurt most people. and he'd have to die doing it. but then george mason snuck on board and told him he'd finish the flight - even though jack had told him no because he was two coughs and a wheeze from death but since it was only 10 minutes away, jack thought close enough and jumped.
michelle and tony are going to go on a date after its all over.
a girl who looks really familiar - but i can't remember from where - got shipped over to replace darlene from rosanna. turns out she is michelle's old boss and they had some issues, but they aren't telling us what yet. now michelle is her boss. they are sort of acting like she hit on michelle - it's very weird.
umm . . . oh! the warner's! yeah, so it was neither the dad nor the fiance - it was marie!!!! she is like a psycho extremist! after her mom died, she disappeared for a month and hooked up with sihid ali! so, she killed some agents and her fiance and was going to kill her sister but jack shot her in the arm.
her sister is dumb. first, she got kidnapped with her pi by sihid ali and got tortured and watched them kill the pi. then, one of the guys was about to kill her when jack broke in - so the guy committed suicide instead. then, jack used her to pick out which guy was sihid ali from the mosque. then she is the one that caught marie. sihid ali was tortured but wouldn't tell until jack captured his family and pretended to have them killed, but really it was just magic with cameras.

my weekend was boring but i officially quit chang's on friday :) actually, saturday night was probably my last shift ever - even though i'm technically still employed until 10/15. sunday was my brother's bday, so him, his gf (who he lives with), parents, grandma (dad's mom), jessie and i met at jessie's restaurant (my brother and my grandmother like italian better). def nice to see everyone :) my mom gave me a necklace i had picked out and an audrey hepburn purse as bday presents. i've wanted an audrey hepburn purse, so i am pretty excited :)
other than that, i've just been watching 24 all weekend . . . .
did you guys want updates on that?
i had sooo much fun this weekend. i went to the airport, picked up my mom and dev (he did come with me), he slept the whole way in the car cause he was so tired from all the travel, and i loved it, cause my mom and i just talked the whole way. we got home, sashank and kerry came, i got to open all my online shopping stuff. half of which i didnt like, but its ok, the other half was great! we had dinner, then my dad dev sashank and i talked till like 2 am, well i feel asleep around 1230, but they talked. dev said it was really comfortable.
sat, we got up just hung around the house, then dev and i went to the mall to return most of the banana republic stuff. unfortunately im def a size 6 there :( and everything i had bought was a size 4. i need to lose weight again, i dont like this...anyway, i got a few things, bought an awesome suit from j crew that feels as thought it was tailor made for me! we came home, dev and i took a nap in the family room upstairs. i sat in the reclining chair on the couch and he laid in my lap, it was nice :) its frustrating to be around family when all we want to do it take a nap together and you cant do that, but this worked. then dev, my grandparents, and i went to the temple on the way to nalini aunties house for dinner - my grandparents love him - he takes such good care of them, as if they are his own grandparents. i love it. dinner was awesome, they go so out of their way to make elaborate dinners for us. we got home around 1, dev talked to my parents while i fell asleep on the couch (pattern developing...) on sunday we just got up, packed up, went to mamouns in New haven for lunch and then sashank and kerry dropped us off at the train station. after trecking through manhattan we finally reached my apt around 7 pm, had some pizza, did some work, i was asleep by 11, and he came to bed at 3. it was so nice :) i cant wait for hawaii!!! today after work we are going to best buy to go buy a video camera for the trip. my parents have been wanting a new one so we will pick it out, use it, then give it to them for their trip to brazil in november...
