hi girls! I got back from california today and had the most amazing time! I was recruiting at caltech last wednesday and thursday. then on thursday night elaine, a friend of mine from work, met up with me so that we could party all weekend. we hung out with pulgui on thursday night. friday she and I drove around a lot. we went to santa monica and walked around the promenade (a strip with in santa monica with nice shops and restaurants and stuff). the beach in that area is so pretty! I'm not used to seeing the beach and mountains together, so I thought it was gorgeous. we also drove around beverly hills and rodeo drive. driving around that area made me want to be a rich housewife for about 5 minutes.
friday night we went bar hopping to a bunch of bars close to our hotel. we were staying on sunset blvd in west hollywood, so there are a lot of places to go to. do you guys remember the sex and the city episodes where the girls go to LA? well, we went to the bar where miranda rides the bull! after last call at 2:00 am, we went to mel's diner, which is just a random diner that's open late night. it's not a fancy place at all, but after we walked in adam sandler and kevin james walked in after us! they were with 2 other friends and they all ordered root beer floats. it was so cute! my friends and I were really drunk and excited about seeing adam sandler, so elaine and I asked them if we could take a picture with them. it was definitely the highlight of my weekend :)
on saturday we drove to venice beach, had brunch on the boardwalk, and then walked around a little. the boardwalk there reminded me of south beach, just that it was a lot bigger. at night we went to elaine's friends' party in this beautiful huge house in beverly hills. the guys throwing the party are these 2 brothers that she knows from columbia. they were investment bankers for a couple of years at goldman, and they decided to quit their jobs recently to move to LA and launch their own top shelf vodka brand. they're really rich and into the whole modeling/actor/trendy scene in LA, so the party was exactly like something you'd see in a movie. all the guys and girls were really good looking and dressed really well. it was so different from new york in that everyone had exactly the same style, though. and then, when we heard some girls talking in the bathroom, they were pretty superficial. anyway, it was definitely nice and fun for a night.
on sunday we pretty much spent the day recovering from all the drinking from the previous nights. pulgui picked us up for brunch. we were going to go to the Ivy, some place that famous people go to all the time. we decided to go somewhere else because the wait was too long, and I ran into josh juster on the way out of the restaurant. it was so random! he lives in seattle but was in LA for business. anyway, random. we also went to the grove, a really nice shopping/restaurant area in west hollywood. we drove to manhattan beach right around sunset just to sit and watch the beach at sunset. and then I finally had my first taste of in and out burger! have you guys heard of that fast-food burger place that all west coasters are obsessed with? it tastes soo much better than mcdonald's and it's supposed to be much healthier. anyway, now I know what all the hype is about. it was delicious.
and that's pretty much my trip. here's the pic of me and elaine with adam sandler and kevin james :)
I'll post this on the blog so that rupa can read it whenever she gets a chance. anusha, how was india? megan, how's life?
