running around for no reason

today is my day of running from meeting to class to class . . . tomorrow, i'm going to be busy all day working on a stupid set up of an experiment, friday i'll be looking at it . . . then, i move in with my cousins friday evening. i don't know what i'll be doing with my dog yet - i think she is going to stay at edgar's, but i have dog obedience class on fridays which hopefully i can still go to . . . my life seems so busy yet i don't seem to be doing a whole lot.

and thanksgiving was really nice but i should have been studying because i had a test monday morning which i'll find out the grade for on friday but i'm pretty unexcited about it . . .

now, i need to go separate some blood!!!

where has everyone been??

my weekend was awesome. i couldnt have asked for anything better. wed night/thurs morn was fun with satyan, i got to ct at 3 on thurs and was there until monday night. sashank was there till sat. the food was amazing like always and we got a lot of wedding planning done. this week is so busy! tonight im going to the new nobu which is basically in my building :) im really excited. the food is only supposed to be ok but the ambiance and the drinks are supposed to be awesome. and tomorrow im going to see conan so i have to leave work at 3. last time i tried to go we got there 2 min late and were screwed! hopefully this time it all works out...then this sat is the bachelorette party :) thats my week/life in a nut shell....

cooking at satyans

thats about the funniest thing ive ever heard :) 1. he didnt have a plate or cup in the apt until i gave him our leftovers that had been taking up room under the counter. 2. he still doesnt own any pots/pans/etc etc. 3. there is no dishwasher so we have to wash everything we use on our own which i hate doing. i do it when i have to but id rather not...

plus i like staying in my bed, with lots of movie options. also that way i dont have to pack for tonight through next tues, one extra night of things to think about :)

thanksgiving

i'm having the main meal tomorrow at my aunt eileen's (in rochester, well, henrietta - the cousins that i randomly stay with for weeks at a time) that will be a lot of my dad's side of the family and edgar. then we are going to buffalo. i'm not sure what's happening there because one aunt is not speaking to the other and my cousin is celebrating with her inlaws. i'll spend the weekend in buffalo. edgar is supposed to be going with me there too but he's had a little bit of a cold the last couple of days and my grandma is super frail sooo . . . if he's not feeling a lot better by tomorrow, then he might get disinvited so as to not get her sick . . .

happy thanksgiving to you all! and yes, megan, what are you doing for thanksgiving? i'm spending thanksgiving at my aunt's house. except that now i think that 2 of my aunts are both cooking, so i don't know if i'm going to have to pick favorites or if i can manage to go to both houses. . . i'm trying to get in touch with my bro so we can plot. and i get to see the heat monday night! i'm so excited, i love heat games :)

nush, see you at home tonight! jackie and i fly out at 5:30 am tomorrow morning, so i'll try not to make too much noise. . .i'm going to a bar after work to celebrate my 2 first hires from my sourcing projects. we're going to this place called jimmy's, which is awesome because it's this tiny hole-in-the wall place right in times square. it's definitely not the kind of bar you'd expect to see in midtown, and it's right behind D.E. Shaw. after that, i have to go home and pack, maybe nap, then maybe go out and party. . .i don't think i'm going to get much sleep tonight. . .

satyan and i are cancelling our dinner reservations at amma once again :) I realized we have to stay at my place tonight since tomorrow for brunch most places would be closed and we want to cook at home...so we are just going to pick a cute new rest down there for our pre thanksgiving dinner together.

i love sushi but i hate some new yorkers

two people from citigroup took us out to lunch and i suggested we go to the sushi place around here which is the absolute best sushi in the area. i loved it. then when i was walking out i stopped to get my umbrella and someone had stolen it :( it was a nice one from brookstone that satyan just bought for me. i was so sad! why would someone do that! i refuse to buy one myself cause they are so expensive but they are soo much better than the cheapo ones i usually get. its so gross out here though i might had to suck it up and go buy one..

i hate going out on days like this. i hate even having to leave my bed on days like today! meg, congrats on studying! keep up the good work :)

we had our 1.5 hr long department-wide meeting today. except that it actually took like 1.75 hours and felt especially painful today. i decided to write myself a little "to-do" list while i was bored out of my mind. item #8 on my list: check weekend weather forecast in miami. item #9 on my list: don't forget to pack miami heat jersey and t-shirt. :)

i've actually studied the last two nights! keep this up and i'll be ready for the test in a week and a half! too bad its less than a week from now . . .

i think i might see my boss today - but i'm not sure. which is ok with me at this point . . . in fact, delaying seeing her until after thanksgiving would be fan-tabulous!

ok, i'm going to get some work done . . . this is the boring part . . . last week was actual bench work so it was all very ok, now i need to add this and let sit for 2 hours. this week, its look at the data i created/collected last week. its alot easier to go ok, i'll just check the blog once more before i get started . . .

i had a great weekend too :)

yesterday was my most fav day in a long time! sat night satyan and i coudlnt go to amma (my fav indian rest) again because they were closed for a party but we are trying again this wednesday as a pre thanksgiving dinner...

then we went and saw some belly dancers at a friends bday party :) ive never seen male belly dancers before! it was fun :)

sunday was the best day. we woke up at 11, made eggs and pancakes, watched 2 movies on the couch, fell asleep there, moved to my bed at 3 and slept from 3-530, got up went to his place, i worked out while he practiced, and then he ordered amazing indian food for dinner, and i watched all my sunday tv! it was the best most relaxing day ive ever had. of course i come to a very very stressful monday morning but luckily only 2 more days of this for now...

my weekend

i ended up having a very lovely saturday! like rupa mentioned, she met up with me in the afternoon and we spent a couple of hours walking around nyc, chatting and catching up, and we made a pit stop at taco bell. sooo exciting! saturday night i went to brooklyn and hung out with erica and radie, my two ex-officemates. rupa met up with us at a bar later, too. all in all, it was a nice day :) then sunday i took julia to her very first knicks game. sean, jackie's boss, gave me his season tickets because they were playing a crappy team, so he wasn't interested in going. the seats were awesome! we were sitting on the court right behind the basket. julia had a GREAT time cheering and yelling and going nuts! she's such a loud little girl -- everyone kept staring at us. we even got on the tv screen! i've never been on the tv before. . .anyway, we had a great time. i'm including some pictures that i took with my phone (so the quality is not too great, but i thought they were cute. . .)

your weekend sounds really fun. I was here all weekend.. I mostly slept
and lounged around. my sister was gonna come to town but didn't.. I did
go dancing on Friday night and I hung out with jules during the day for
a bit on Saturday. we walked from penn station to soho and just talked
and caught up. it was really fun!

I'm so glad I came back when I did b/c I'm totally not in full work mode
and luckily this is just 3 days. I'm going home for turkey day on
Wednesday night.. one of my favorite cousins has moved to miami for grad
school and he's coming to our house for thanksgiving.. it's his first
one. he's so excited to eat turkey :) then Friday night is moushumi's
brother's engagement party. I'm happy to be around lots of people all
weekend b/c that's what I'm missing after india.

back to work but I wanted to say hi.. the blogging has dwindled!!! by

harry potter

i'm going tomorrow night :)
matt and erin (matt is a friend from changs and erin is his gf) are coming over to my place at 9ish thursday night, i'm making pot roast. then the four of us are going to the midnight showing of harry potter. do i really care that much about it? no. but matt always tries to coordinate the four of us hanging out and it never works out so . . .

other than that, things are really busy at work. the on-campus season is coming to an end, though, so i was volunteered to organize a big fancy dinner for the department at the end of the month. we're going to this greek restaurant that seems really cool, www.thalassanyc.com, so i'm excited. we get our own private room and everything.

my dad left for colombia today, so i'm a little bummed about that. i hate not being able to talk to my parents easily every day! oh well, at least they're having fun . . .

and yes, i can't believe next week is thanksgiving already. where did fall go? i feel like summer just ended 2 seconds ago. and i feel like i'm busy every night from here to thanksgiving. when am i supposed to find time to go to the gym?? speaking of busy evenings, this thursday jackie, anusha and i are hanging out with joe and his new girlfriend to celebrate his birthday. sounds exciting, huh? should be interesting. . .

and i'm going to a knicks game with julia this sunday! i'm not a huge knicks fan and they suck this year, but julia's never been to a basketball game before, so it should be exciting. and jackie got me tickets from one of her co-workers, so the best part is that we have awesome seats and i don't have to pay for them :) i love the perks in jackie's job sometimes.

ok, i should get back to tackling my never-ending to-do list. blah. megan, dinner and gilmore girls tonight! nush, hopefully we'll get to hang with rupa tonight. . .

i slept soo well last night but i could not get out of bed this morning. i didnt get here till 9 again...thats bad for me!! oh well..

i went to yoga last night - i love that place. tonight satyan has another show at a new place. he hasnt had one in a while. and tomorrow im going to see HARRY POTTER with jules and jackie for a preview of the movie :)

i cant believe next week is thanksgiving. we are talking about who will be in the office to cover for the group that day and it looks like there are other people in the office so i might not have to come in - its a good thing i saved one vacation day :) i may still come in if satyan is here for the weekend.

megan are we set on that weekend in january?? things are starting to book up and i need to figure out a weekend to go to boston to see my cousin...

and i love and hate tuesdays . . . i love them 'cause they are my busiest night, i hate them for the same reason . . . tonight, as soon as i finish at the lab i will rush home and await my aunt's phone call - she and i are going out to dinner together tonight. her hairdresser is in my neighborhood so we go out when ever she has an appointment. then, after dinner i'll go over to jess's for gilmore girls and house. i like that i have this nice planned hang out time with jess - and not just because i get to watch gilmore girls.

great weekends

i had an awesome weekend too :) satyan came to gbury for the first time. we got there friday night - my bro and i had planned a wine tasting event at my house as a celebration for my dads bday which is this coming weekend. nalini auntie and ravi uncle came over. it was sooo much fun. I think im going to try to do one of those sometime in NY. maybe in jan when you come megan..

my mom made the best food. sashank said that usually her cooking is an A but this weekend it was an A+. sat satyan and i went for a drive to the cottage then we went to this diwali party at the temple - my dad got an award for most outstanding contribution to the community. it was great to hear all the wonderful things about him. sunday my parents drove us to NY because they wanted to spend more time with us :)

satyan fit in so well with my family. it felt really good to look at him playign the piano in my living room with my grandfather sitting on the bench next to him and just admiring him. then id catch him sitting with my grandmother listening to her tell him some story about how she used to live in bombay, or having him and my brother tease me together. it was great :) so great that he may even come back to ct for thanksgiving...we shall see.

this weekend

was beautiful!!! edgar and i went to a state park saturday - we got there at around 10 and left at 3ish, packed a picnic lunch and ran around with dollop off of her leash. we were all very tired - luckily, dollop and i could go home and take a nap. edgar had to work (haha)

eun is gone this week and i have a nice schedule of fully planned out experiments! i love weeks like this, i'll be busy but not stressed and there will never be a random 4:45 drop by on eun's part going yeah, could you just do this? i could really use the data by tomorrow. thanks! AND i missed my shuttle so i've got a medium dunkin donuts coffee and a chocolate chip muffin sitting in front of me. oh, heaven!

im still not exactly sure how they got him - my speculations - either they donated a lot of money to his foundations, his campaign, etc. or they just paid him a lot since they are loaded..

either way it was a lot of fun :) i love getting opportunities like that (not that it happens often but still...) he didnt talk for very long - just talked about all his initiaitives since leaving the white house. he bashed bush a bit which was pretty funny. then QA where people asked a lot about what he would do differently.

after the talk i went downtown to meet one of satyans cousins who was in town.

all in all it was a great evening :) tonight i just want to go home, go to bikram, pack for the weekend and go to sleep.

i have no idea why he is talking but im totally fired up for it. ill let you guys know tomorrow what he talks about. the hedge fund is pretty big/rich maybe he is invested, maybe he knows them, maybe (most likely) they contributed to hillarys campaign or something..but who knows those are all speculations. i wish satyan was invited but he doesnt know them.

i am still working :) the first thing i needed to do today wasn't until after 10 (really, it should have been at 11 but that would have totally screwed up my day, so i compromised and said 10ish) plus, i think i'm going to have to come back after my workshop (which is from 4 to 6) so i decided i could come in a little late (i was here a little bit before 10) and it would be ok. i don't have a generally high stressed job. there are only random times that i actually have to work beyond 40 hours. its you crazy new york city girls that are attempting to tackle the corporate ladder and put in long hours :)

i don't watch grey's anatomy . . . but i also don't really watch desparate housewives. the only shows i watch devotedly are gilmore girls and house - tv is a compromise between edgar and i when he's over (which is always unless he's working or at class) and then there is other stuff we'd rather be doing - walking dollop, hanging out, etc.

i hope you feel better, nush! sorry, meg, but i think you're alone on this whole being surrounded by pregnancy thing. i think it must have something to do with new york city -- most people don't get pregnant or married in your early/mid-20s. you have the rest of your life to deal with all that shit! although my friend from high school, chantal, found out last month that she's pregnant. we went to her wedding this past may, she's been dating her boyfriend -- oh, i guess i should say husband, since sophomore year in high school, and they're the most adorable couple ever! still, i don't know why they'd want to rush into having a baby so soon after their marriage. . . oh well! we're all excited because now we have a baby to spoil (we = me, jackie, evelyn, and jessie).

i was so scared when i woke up yesterday morning. i always watch the weather channel in the mornings to figure out what i'm going to wear, and the first thing i saw as soon as i turned on the tv was, "killer tornado in evansville, indiana". yeah, that just happens to be where evelyn lives. thank God she's safe, but the trailer park that the tornado destroyed was just like 3 miles away from evelyn's house! i don't know how people deal with tornadoes. . .at least you know when a hurricane is coming so you can prepare for it!

i love gray's anatomy. megan, do you watch that show? i think you'd like it. everyone in hotel sullivan (anusha, jackie, and me) is obsessed with it. soo much better than desperate housewives!

pregnancy

i don't know how surrounded you guys are with women getting knocked up - but it seems to be contagious around here. so - i'm full of useless info on pregnancy. so, i've been informed of the don't tell everyone until after the first trimester because if you are going to miscarry, it will probably be before then. so, esther is pregnant (esther is edgar's best friend) she's been trying so this is a good thing. so, he tells me and i ask him how far along she is - 10 DAYS! you don't start telling people at 10 days!!! she was at the doctor's for something else and it was discovered - and then somehow the information got to her husband before her so he's already started informing his family so she decided she should start spreading the news. edgar is totally excited (he, his cousin eli and esther are a trio - they figured he'd remain single forever, eli is gay so esther was the one who was supposed to have kids for them all to shower with love and attention) can you tell at 10 days??? should you be telling people?! its just incredible to me. esther is so easy to work up - i do not envy her husband 'cause she's going to be a complete space case for the next 9 months . . . and thats taking for granted that this preganancy does pan out . . . riduculous.

i got an email from rupa last week responding to my diwali email :) she saw ameya for 5 min - drive by visit...

this weekend was so much fun except that it ended in me being sick...satyan had been sick all week so i knew it was inevitable but i was trying to avoid it anyway. we went to his parents house friday night. they are great, i like hanging out with them. sat we went to the temple and played some basketball which was fun then came back to the city. i went to a gallery opening with sandi on sat night (she was visiting from boston with her bf for the opening) i felt so sophisticated :) granted it was in brooklyn and not soho like in sex and the city, but it still was fun :)

now im sick....but hopefully itll pass with the dayquil im taking.

this weekend satyan is coming to my house in CT with me and sashank has the weekend off so he is coming too.

i haven't figured out which weekend . . . i think i will probably do the weekend we initially discussed, i just need to talk to edgar or my family about who wants to entertain dollop for a week. edgar does not do mornings, so i think the 7:30am first walk would kill him . . . but i don't know if i want to ask his parents to take dollop for that long . . . man, anyone who thinks they want a kid should take care of a puppy for a couple of weeks.

trick or treating

i went trick or treating for the first time in like 15 years! it was so much fun. arjun was a fencer and avinash was a karate kid. i just wore black and uma chittis witch hat and escorted them with kevin (kerrys younger brother who lives like 15 min from my aunt). then we came home and lit firecrackers for an hour or so because tues was diwali (the indian festival of lights). i love being there with those kids. plus my mom came so that was an added advantage.

tonight im supposed to have dinner with ellen. we shall see. it was sad yesterday to spend diwali by myself - satyan was sick and neither of us felt like leaving out apts and i think rupa is my only other indian friend in the city and she isnt in the city! so i just came home, ate dinner and went to sleep. at least i got to wake up and spend the morning with my mom before flying back to ny.

we were invited to a party on saturday night but edgar had a really shitty night friday night and a pretty bad one saturday, so he wasn't feeling a night of jello shots and drunk people in costumes . . . yup, i'm lame :)

monday i was really busy at work. tuesday i was really really hungover at work. and today i'm all rested and feeling great.
