yeah! julie is alive!

i'll save the kappa sig gossip for our friday together - ekta isn't coming to that, is she? seeing her - sounds nice. spending the day just the three of us - too much.

as for my flights . . .
i land in NYC at 11:15pm thursday evening (you guys may want to eat without me) and i leave at 8:10pm sunday evening (in other words plenty of time to spend the day, but not infringing on anyone's possible desparate/grey's fix :)

it's finally spring! :)

absolutely nothing goes on in my life either, and I've been kind of down lateley, which is why I've been neglecting the blog. it's gorgeous outside today, though, so it's hard not to be happy on a day like today! it's supposed to be 70 degrees out! it finally feels like spring. how's the weather in rochester, megan?

oh yeah, I have some good news, megan: I just told my boss that I'd be taking friday, april 14th off as a 'religious day', since it's good friday. that means that you and I can sleep in on friday, maybe go to the moma in the afternoon, and just play in the city all afternoon! woo-hoo! I'm starting to get excited about my birthday. I think ekta's coming, too. I went to DC last weekend to hang out with her. it was also a kappa sig reunion since everyone was in town celebrating ramos's birthday. it was fun, I like hanging out with everyone once in a while. let me know if you'd like any kappa sig gossip, and I'll fill you in with the boring details.

anyway, I don't want to plan a whole lot of things for my birthday. I have a general idea of what I want to do, but I don’t want an itinerary or anything. I'd rather just figure things out that weekend. I know that I definitely want to go salsa dancing one night. you girls don't mind, right? I was thinking we could go to the copacabana on friday night. I love that place! and then I think we'd talked about dinner at rupa's thursday night? megan, at what time is your flight on sunday? anusha and jackie are leaving us sunday morning for easter brunch (jackie's going to her cousin's in jersey, anusha is going to philly), but you, me, rupa, and evelyn (and ekta if she's around) should do something nice for easter :)

ok, that's my 2-weeks' worth of blogging. hope you all have a lovely friday :)

you whores!

i mean that in the nicest way possible . . . but where is everyone???

3.29.2006

i'm starving

lab meeting is at 9, where we are served bagels so i haven't had breakfast - but its 8:30! i'm either just getting up now (weekends) or i've already had at least something to eat!

3.28.2006

where is everyone?

busy day here as usual...just want to eat, study, and go to bed early...

3.27.2006

bdays...

jules - youre next - any ideas for plans?? i just talked to megan because Sashank and Kerry are planning an easter brunch at their place on sunday morning and im going to go there sunday morn. ill have time on friday to hang out with megan in the city because allen is out that day..

i love you nushie!

just wanted to give you a little cyber hug - i'm glad satyan's there for you :)

india

i dont think i can commit yet..i need to wait and see when my cousins wedding is and also see when i need to go shopping at stuff like that.

i dont think ive ever met someone that i respect as much as i do satyan :) i had the best time with him this weekend even though all we did was study. i honestly never thought life could be this happy despite all the other stressful things in my life. to be with someone who can be around me even when i dont have a hat on and think its ok that his gf has no hair is still amazing to me. i still get sad when we are out and people ocnstantly are playing with/fussing with their hair. its weird to be jealous about that...and then he reminds me of all the wonderful things that i have in my life...

i think im going to take up the journal writing idea....

3.24.2006

yay :)

congrats, nush. that's awesome :) and your weekend sounds excellent.

i've been meaning to blog for days but have just been too busy to read it.. at least i had plenty of blogs to read today. i'm definitely definitely in for colombia next year! that would be so nice.. i really want to see where you are from, jules.

about india, any more thoughts on definitely going? tickets are never cheap for there but they are far cheaper if we buy now and not in october and after.. since that is the best time to go in terms of weather/people getting time off from work here, the tix can get really expensive if we buy them too close to the time we are going. i hope we really do it!!!

my life is a lil crazy and busy right now.. i'm thinking about moving to india for a while (but still work for this company).. i'm working all the time.. i'm not sleeping enough etc. i'll try and write more this weekend b/c i feel like there's so much to update you all on...

happy friday!

hard not to smile after a week like this...

FL was work but still really fun. and yesterday and today have been good at work. i have been busy but good busy. and i think im officially getting promoted and a raise in july which was nice news to come back to. of course they wont tell me the actual amount until july.

this weekend i just plan on watching movies, studying, and relaxing...

i'm happy to see!!

anusha - your posts had lots of exclamation points! it makes me picture you smiling as you type :)

random tidbit - jules and nush, do you remember jaime, my friend from high school that went to BU? she randomly emailed me the other day and now we are writing back and forth. she's living in ft. lauderdale, working as an account and is still with max.

colombia

im in! i cant wait to be done studying i want to travel!

hey

i got back last night. the breakers was great. it was nice to be away for a while; next year i am def taking the whole week off and staying down there.

this is my new fav quote from one of my cousins....he just found out about everything i was going through and wrote a very nice email to me this is the best line:

i have learnt that life deals you a hand and some times when you draw from the deck each card makes it tougher to win the game but makes you a better player.

its nice that it is already thursday!!

my dog is a demon

she ate my glasses yesterday. well, she didn't swallow anything - but she chewed them so badly that when i gentley tried to put them back into shape, they snapped in my fingers. so i got out my contact - which i haven't worn in forever - one was ripped and the other was fine. i found my last still in its package contact. i ripped another one this morning (the other old one - apparently monthly contacts aren't meant to survive for years) i'm going to call to get an eye appointment today. she also ate a shot glass - the plastic one that anusha and i got in cancun freshman year. edgar and i went out and bought wire rope (coated in plastic) to make her a leash that she can't destroy to wear around the apartment. this way, when she's bad we have a way to get to her to scold her instead of chasing and making it a game.

as for colombia - is carlos vives the head of tourism the same carlos vives who is a singer? or is that just a common name? is he like the colombian ricki martin??? i know, random thing to take away from the article, but i had to ask :)

3.22.2006

Girls

no stories here. i've been feeling kind of blah for the past week or so, so i haven't had anything nice to share, and i hate just writing to complain. nothing's wrong, i guess it might just be a combination of being sick of the cold and missing my parents and home and working too much and stressing about money. . .

but anyway, i read this article about colombia today and it made me think of you girls! i know you guys are making plans for india at the end of this year or something like that, but how about colombia next year?? it would be so much fun, and i'd love showing you guys around:

3.21.2006

i'm good!

edgar and i were both sick last week and over the weekend (more during the weekend) but we both are feeling better now. i went home over the weekend for my mom's bday - it was really nice and she enjoyed it. we went to a painting class on saturday (picture the guy from PBS and his happy little clouds - we painted an old barn on a hill)

i watched history of violence last night - it was really bad!!!

ok, now everyone else add their stories :)

blog!!!

i miss you girls... how is everyone?

3.20.2006

where is everyone?

eun's gone for three days so i'm totally taking it slow (i got here at 9:45am this morning - it felt sooo good). . . and there have been no blogs to entertain me!!!!

3.16.2006

makes me giggle

i liked the t-shirts :)
i think the hungry hungry hippos was my favorite :)

busted tees

i love love love these... they make me crack up. i think there are 10 that i really like.. but the best one is the nintendo cartridge one.

LOVE IT!!

the internet is a magical thing

i figure i don't need to start doing my experiment until 10am - which means i'm going to screw off until then. so, i was skimming the headlines on msn.com and i read their little diet article. which led me to another. which led me to a calorie based on weight and activity calculator. then i checked the starbucks website . . . see, i LOVE going to the mall and getting coffee and walking around. i found out that based on my weight, i can burn 167 calories walking-shopping nongrocery (that was the activity category) and a small nonfat mocha with no whip cream (my usual order) is 170 calories! its perfect!

oh, how i love technology . . . now, if i could just find a way for the shopping to pay for the coffee . . .

3.14.2006

haven't seen it in forever

but my guess would be katherine heigl's character... maybe she falls for
meredith too like everyone else.. is that her name (grey's)? meredith?

going to watch it tonight...

my reward after class tonight is going to be a glass of wine and watching greys...if i can stay awake that long..

i just got my schedule for the FL conference. packed but looks like fun. there are at least a few hours each day that satyan and i can just hang out on the beach although being in a bathing suit around all industry people would be really weird...

grey's anatomy

if someone told you one of the characters of grey's anatomy was going to come out before the season was over as bisexual, which would you guess?

i think the dr that george is presently displaying his ability as the ball-less wonder to.

time to go run some samples!

mornin'

This was my horoscope this morning.. I just think it's really good
advice so I thought I'd share :) I apply it to my life in romantic
situations.. but it's nice to think that you don't always know what's
gonna happen, and sometimes you just need to leap :)
"There's just no way to uncover all the aspects of a situation, no
matter how much you'd like to before you proceed. Be a little bolder,
and detach yourself a little bit from the results."

my replies

weather was really nice on saturday - mix of cloudy and sunny with temperatures in the 60s. yesterday was in the 60s too but a lot more rainy/cloudy. today, still warm but totally rainy . . . i gues its supposed to get cold again tomorrow (i should check that so i can decided whether i have to give up my flip flops after only starting to wear them on saturday . . .) so far, no snow though so overall a good weekend :)

i should be able to leave in 20 minutes . . . i will not be working a 12 hour day this week! unless i decide to stay late on thursday so that i don't have to come at all on friday . . . but it will be my choice! eun is actually taking time to look at results and think about concentrations before diving in to samples - its awesome! and should keeps pushing back the "must have data by then" date - which is making me totally happy and even a little inclined to analyze the data a bit before she gets back from her vacation . . . if today's experiment works, then i do another this week and two next week and have all the data she wants for the symposium she's going to! which, come to think of it, will give me some more time off from her because she'll be in colorado for it . . . sweet!

no blogs since 10? :)

we've been so good! megan, lion king sounds so exciting! I really do
want to see that.. is that still even in ny? how was the weather up
there this weekend? how are things with edgar? I'm excited to see you
in a month :) today has been really busy and I'm still really sleepy
from miami.. I got back around 2am and had to come in early (745) for
this call with an investment bank in india.. uggh. I hope I can leave
in an hr or two. anyway.. write more!! this is a nice distraction from
my work ;)

i went to lion king!

we were in row G on the aisle - i almost got taken out by a passing elephant. it was AWESOME! plus, the day was nice in rochester so we'd gone for two long walks. the theater is not that long of a walk from my apartment so we walked to the theater also. it was nice but i was a little paranoid that we'd be late on the way there. after the show, i was totally happy that we walked because the night was still nice and the traffic was crazy.

i tried bubble tea for the second time in my life yesterday - i still don't like it. edgar and i were reduced to fits of giggles as we were drinking it and walking dollop because neither of us liked it. we started spitting out the bubbles - edgar managed a little sprinkler effect doing a couple bubbles in a row. yes, we are children . . .

now i'm at work in flip flops, about to go find eun since when i send her emails that are like you need to respond by 9am on monday, its 10am and i still haven't heard from her.

:)

im glad you had a nice weekend. i cant wait to go to west palm beach this weekend. sun - wed.

my weekend was blah, i didnt sleep well and i just studied...not that exciting. the highlight was cooking dinner last night for satyan - in a weird way since i never do it, i love doing it :) i made pasta and chocolate covered strawberried. it was soooo good. i cant wait till june 4th when i can do this stuff whenever i want and not feel like its taking up too much of my time...

i heart miami

wow.. what a fab weekend :) i have a meeting now but wanted to say good morning :) and tell you all how in love with miami i am.... jules, whenever you decide to move back there, you may have a roommate coming with you ;)

3.10.2006

im in a good mood too :)

last night i finished watching north country which i thought was really good! it was very heartfelt.

then this morning i had to be at a conference a 8am. which is waaay too early for a fri morn, but then at 9 or so satyan came in which was nice to see him :) i love seeing him at work events now. then we got coffee at starbucks - we barely even talked, we both just sat, drank coffee and read the newspaper. its so nice to enjoy doing that with him. then he walked me half the way home, and i was joking and asking him to send me notes from a conference he went to so that i save time in typing up my notes - and when i got to my desk he actualyl sent them!!! i love having a bf in the industry :) plus we get to go to FL in 2 weeks for a conference together. its going to be so much fun.

and its sooo warm out here!

yay

megan you sound so happy :) yay! i forgot who yon was for a second... then i remembered.

i am on hold right now with my credit card company.. and i've had to listen to three whole songs. that wouldn't be TOO bad if they were good songs.. or neutral songs.. but you know what i've heard?

1. achy breaky heart
2. that titanic song.. celine dion whatever..
3. (currently) unbreak my heart.. i think toni braxton.

YUCK... talk about three of the worst songs ever.. this is REALLY making me want to hang up

i now converse with yon!

it makes me so happy! i emailed him in a fit of giddy nostalgia last week (along with koo and anita) and he emailed me back and now we have a little convo going on! i know, random - but i've gotten two emails from him today and i'm smiling so i thought i'd share . . .

its like 50 degrees here! i walked from my car into the hospital 'cause i was so happy about it . . . and then it almost started raining on me. its not raining now, but there are nothing but clouds in the sky - makes the warm weather bittersweet. especially since i'm pretty much booked from now until 10ish . . .

3.09.2006

yay :)

jules is the best!!!

she made me a color-coded map AND mini-guidebook email for my miami trip.

thanks so much, chica!

i really want to say something . .

. . . i really like all the posting thats been going on, and i want to contribute to the flow but dude, i've got nothing to say! all i'm thinking about it planning work for the next week - which i think is going pretty well.

i do like the word caveat though. its just a fun word. buttress isn't so bad either - but a bit harder to work into conversation . . .

food

i forgot to add that one caveat with the gift - when you cook feasts like that you have to invite me over to eat!!!!!!!!!!!

miami sounds like fun :) i havent been there since i went with toral like junior year or something...

blind panic

i was talking to eun about what we are doing for the next few months (she's still crazy, but i feel much more informed) she wants to start another study april 10th - which i find annoying, since i told her FOREVER ago that i would not be here april 14th but whatever. as i say this to her today, i suddenly think wait - i feel like i made the plane reservation for april 14th. ohmygod, did i make reservations for friday night instead of thursday???!!!! no, that would suck! ohgodohgodohgod, i have to go check right now! but the whole time, i'm pretending to be listening to every word coming out of her mouth. so, as soon as i came back to my desk, i checked my reservations - don't worry, they really are for thursday. phew!

hi!

oh... indian gallery opening sounds great.. but i can't go. i'm going to miami tomorrow night which means i have to do laundry/packing/etc tonight. where/who/what is it? i'll try and go next week.

megan, your weekends sound fun! i can't wait to see you here.. i'll try and take at least half of friday off when you come so that we can hang out.. but if anything you can have my moma card, go there for the day, and we can all meet for lunch there at "the modern" which has great food.

i used my knives yesterday for the first time. i have played with them a bit but have been too busy to really cook (or have been making things that don't really require much cutting) but last night i definitely used three of them. my roommate moved out last week which means that now i love just going home and preparing feasts for me to eat.. and that i sold her all my crappy kitchen stuff (i'm trying to graduate from college knives and plates to real ones).

so last night i made red snapper with miso/honey (i'm trying to recreate those bondst skewers) and bokchoy w truffle oil and spinach salad. the salad required lots of cutting :) and i even used one knife for scaling/fileting the fish!! ok i'm a dork but thank you SO much for supporting my habit...

i can't wait for miami.... it's nice though, the weather is looking better today and this weekend here so it should be nice even in ny.

weekends

that sounds like fun megan! lion king is really good. ive seen it twice - and surprisingly i thought it was better in CT than in NY. so maybe the rochester road show will be just as good!

i love seeing shows :) rupa has become my new show buddy (whether she realizes it or not :)) other than the ones that satyan gets me for some occassion, i make sure rupa comes with me. we are going to see a show after my test, and then sometime in the summer i want to see rent again.

tonight im going to some indian art gallery opening with ellen. rupa - do you want to come? we are meeting at 8 on 19th and 5th. im excited. i feel like things - these are the cool things about NY that i feel we never get to do...

eun never got back to me

actually, she still hasn't - which i find amazing. and she emailed me - so she checked her email, ignored the important one and emailed me about bullshit. my boss is stupid. well, sucks to be her because she just wasted another experiment day! its a 6 hour stimulation plus 2 and change hours to stain just to get to a point where i can stop for the day - so, there is a limited window of oppurtunity for me to do that today. SHE said to ME last week how important it was to get stuff going - so important that i couldn't wait until monday to separate some blood for controls, i had to do it thursday so that it would have time in the freezer before i had to use it tuesday. i've only used one vial and it was on monday anyway! and now i'm just twiddling my thumbs . . . well, actually i've just been doing all the other little things i ignore when i get too busy. maybe by the end of the day, you'll actually be able to see my desk . . .

i'm ready for the weekend.

this saturday i'm going to the lion king! edgar got me tickets for my birthday :) and next weekend, i'm going home (my mom's birthday is the 13th) i'm just not looking forward to today, tomorrow, and monday through thursday of next week (thursday, eun leaves for florida)

3.08.2006

ekta

if its us two and ekta, it will just be megan and ekta :) i cant spend a whole wekeend in the same room as ekta!!

india in dec sounds fun..but i think everything is up in the air right now cause of my cousins wedding that i will definitely go to. she is the only other girl on my dads side so i have to go :)

seeing that there is no engagement for me who knows about the short engagemnet...im holding off on all those thoughts for a while. part of me still wants all my hair issues to go away or at least be more resolved before he and i take that next step...then again he always comes back with "this might jsut be the resolution and we just have to get used to that if thats the case..."

so really everything is up in the air.

bathroom - i found my favorite perfume because of the old woman who used it as a dressing rooma t 5!!! issey miyake :) i was so happy when i finally decided to ask her waht it was.

that is weird

ok definitely weird with the facing the toilet thing.. maybe she spilled something in? maybe she was practicing a speech she was about to give? (lets hope not)

on the occasional fluffing of hair? yeah it's true it's definitely not a hang out place. i've not seen that happen much here mostly b/c there are 5 women on the floor (for the 80 men) and we never really go in at the same time.. at least no one does when i do. i do remember really hating the ones that would act like it was a makeup studio in there.. there was a lady on my old floor who would be sitting on the counter every afternoon like 5ish, brushing her teeth.. doing her makeup and hair before going out.. so much that you felt bad trying to just wash your hands.. now that's just wrong.

so eun never came back w a decision?

bathroom weirdness

so, yesterday when i went in - there was a woman in a stall facing the wrong way. what was she doing? i mean, she was there for a minute or two so its not that i happened to notice at the exact wrong second and she was just facing the toliet to flush. and she's a bit manly . . . i'm going to have to check her out for an adam's apple . . .

then today, a woman came in just to fluff her hair and leave. why is that? not wash her hands, not go to the bathroom - just fluff her hair and leave.

its a bathroom. you go in, take care of business and peace on outta there - its not a cool hang out place, its not your personal dressing room - whatcha doing??

here's the plan

i emailed eun the necessary info and told her to make a decision. if she doesn't make said decision, i'm going home between 4 and 4:30 and she's screwed. i emailed her at 1 - its 3 now and so far so good. keep your fingers crossed!

something is weird about it

the website i mean

i'm not sure what's wrong.. but it appears fixed now. yay!

damnit again!

the website hates me again!

crazy

the crazy part was the snow and the boarding.. :)

so nush does that rule apply to people in your family that live in the states? the short engagement thing? speaking of which, megan/nush, if you really want to do india, i'm definitely going this december. pia and her friend susan are going also for 2 weeks.. megan, susan is white, so if you decide to join, you won't be the token white girl! i know it's early to decide.. but tickets are cheaper now than they will be later.. and that's a hot time to go (for ticket buying the weather than is cooler than the rest of the year)

i can't wait for the weekend.. hump day is almost over! ok.. it's only noon.. but it's already lunchtime!!!

vegas sounds fun :) i would love if i am here then that i could just buy a last minute ticket and sneak into your room.. i will NOT be doing that if you are doing the double trouble thing, but if it's you two and ekta ;) then i will.

i'm sleepy

i'm totally ready to go home and its only noon. i'm almost finished running samples - then hopefully, eun will make a decision while i'm at lunch and i'll either get a few little things done that i've been neglecting and go home or i'll get those same things done and stay here to set up tomorrow's experiment. either way, i'm ready to go home now.

mt dew

i was thinking of blogging the same thing :) although near grand central it was just free dew, no snowboarding. but it was diet dew - if it was regular i prob would have taken it :)

i love fried yucca!!

jules - thats awesome about the bball game. i can only imagine what the score would be if your game was on. im sad that there are no tickets to the big east tourny :( i had a lot of fun with you girls last year. would you and jackie be interested in trying to get scalped tickets?

i vote yes for vegas BUT i just found out this morning that my cousin got engaged in india :) so now im waiting to see when that wedding would be...they dont believe in long engagements there (at least in my family) so it could be as early as this summer/fall. i hope to know in the next few weeks.

mountain dew

as you are saying how crazy it is that they are giving out mountain dew at 8am, i am sitting at my desk drinking one . . .

and i think that is awesome! i miss being in a city a little . . . a place where you use public transportation and when they say "opening in limited release" there is at least a chance its near you. oh well . . .

edgar cooked for me last night - congri and fried yuca - sooo yummy! he's gotten on this kick lately that since he's cuban, he should be able to make at least basic cuban recipes. so far, its only been congri, the yuca, and cod fritters - not so big on the cod and ohmygod did the apartment stink!

so - nush are you and i going to do the vegas thing?? :)

phew

ok, its working now

what's going on??

why can't i see the blog normally? all i can do is see it by individual posts found from the parent directory!!! what happened over night?!

awwww

i didn't see the snowboarders! i always avoid walking through times square as much as possible, so i only saw the guys handing out free mountain dew cans, but i didn't see the snow boarders. oh well. . .

i had my first basketball game last night! my team won by 47 points :) i joined a basketball league with jackie. there are 10 girls on the team and we play once a week. i haven't played basketball in forever--it was so much fun! i didn't play too great, but i wasn't terrible, either. hopefully i'll get back into it soon.

for megan

you would love this.. they are always doing something CRAZY in times sq to promote this or that..

today? well today they have a mt dew campaign going on.. with snowboarders.

and what are the snowboarders doing? they are snowboarding.. down a fake mountain with real snow that they built in times sq.

yup... i wish i had my camera. and they are giving out free mt dew.. at 8am!!!!

3.07.2006

aww

no more blogs since 1? i just came out of a 4 hr negotiation training (boring) and was hoping for some reading :)

anyone still at work?

so many updates

i asked satyan about vegas. he wasnt thrilled but did the um if you really want we can work it in thing. but (julie you can start laughing now because you will be in 1 sec) i have things to do the two weekends before vegas (tejals wedding and ravi uncles bday - back to back weekends in CT) so if we didnt go i guess id be ok. except that i havent been an i want to go....and megan - im ok with just us going too! i just dont want cari or ekta or sumita or anyone of that genre in our room...

i second the vacation away just the four of us - anytime im not studying let me know and i can be there...

satyans sick :( he was throwing up last night - i feel bad that i didnt go over but he called at 10 after class and i was way too lazy to go and didnt realize how sick he was. anyway he is home from work today. after class i may go and surprise him and just bring him soup or ice cream or something :)

kidding :)

i was kidding about the video ipod.. i love my current one.. and am too lazy to move all my music over.. i just mentioned that to show how damn expensive these things are. but it's true.. it's hard to find sunglasses that look really good.. and these do.

i did like another pair that i saw with julie that were half the price of these.. (the versace ones) so maybe i will try those on again if i do feel like these are too much by thursday. (i need to wear them around one day and see how i feel).

yay for journals.. i just went and read parts of mine.. it does make me happy.. and i know i'm gonna want to go back and read what i was thinking now.. just like i can go back and read what i was thinking in college or jr high :) when my journal was mostly about the crushes that i had...

yeah i don't know how much the boys will enjoy vegas.. maybe it's time for a double date vacation for the four of you? :)

i think the four of us should take a vacation together at some point.. just us.. and to a place where none of us lives. it doesn't have to be expensive or fancy or warm even.. just a cabin in snow with just us four, wine, and taboo, would be excellent. lets do that!

i'm going to miami with pia this weekend.. it's gonna one of those cheap-ish vacations and just us. i'm excited :)

ok back to work..

whoa, a lot of blogging action in the last 2 days

I missed the blog yesterday, too. I've been buried in excel for the past couple of weeks because we're trying to upload all of our spreadsheets to this new database that's supposed to make our lives a lot easier, but it's driving me nuts, instead! hopefully it'll be over soon.. .i just have a few more spreadsheets to deal with. I decided I'm going to teach a temp how to do the worst of it today, so at least I won't have to deal with it anymore!

anyway, I do still keep a journal, although I don't write in it as much as I wish I did. I actually pulled it out sunday night and re-read some journal entries that make me happy, and I definitely flipped quickly through entries that were sad. I love my journal, it always cheers me up. right now I'm using a notebook that evelyn gave me. it's a regular notebook, but it has a smurf on the cover, and evelyn wrote me a really nice note on the first page when she gave it to me. re-reading that always makes me smile. I have a couple of random entries on my computer, too, from the times when I'm too lazy to write. so yeah, my thoughts are a little scattered.

on bluetooth-- I know exactly what you're talking about, megan! those bluetooth people annoy me. the other day jackie and I went to a basketball game, and the girl sitting next to us wore her bluetooth earpiece during the whole game. she wasn't on the phone -- she was talking to the guy sitting next to her the whole time, but she still wore that stupid earpiece. I just felt like ripping it off. I don't know, I guess since I sit in front of a computer and I have a telephone next to me all day at work, I just hate the feeling of being 'wired' all day. if you're with someone else, you should be paying attention to them, not to your cell phone/pda/whatever! and I like randomly walking around and actually looking at the stuff and people around me instead of constantly having headphones on or talking on my cellphone. granted, I usually talk to my mom when I'm walking to and from the subway, but still. . . all that being said, I do sometimes wish I had a bluetooth headset when it's freezing out and my hand's about to fall off because I don't have gloves (I'm from miami, I hate all that gloves/scarves/hat shit) and I want to talk to my mom. . . I don’t make any sense, do I?

ok, moving on the the expensive sunglasses: rupa, I think the glasses look great. isn't spending $400 on sunglasses the same as spending $400 on an ipod that you don’t need, since the one you have is perfectly fine? I've always felt more comfortable spending money on the latest tech gadgets than on labels, but that's just 'cause I'm a dork. but you're not only paying for the chanel logo -- you're paying that much money because you love the way the glasses fit! If you're still having second thoughts on thursday, it would probably be best for your to return them. you could also compromise a little and see if you can find say $200 sunglasses that you like instead, no? I think spending a lot of money on sunglasses is the same as spending a lot of money on a purse; you'll probably get the same amount of use out of both (I use my sunglasses almost every day! and they make me sooo happy).

i have no wise thoughts

i'll ask edgar tonight what he thinks about going to vegas the four of us :) i worry that 1. he feels self conscious around MIT grads 2. he hates stupid drunks. i think it would be nice to be there though with him and satyan since satyan seems like he doesn't like stupid drunks or didn't graduate from MIT :)

rupa - you have the money to spend/waste on expensive sunglasses - so the problem is . . . that you think you will appear to others as if you care about what brand you are wearing? isn't returning them basically the same - you care that you appear to others as if you don't care? i think an ipod video is as "wasteful" as expensive sunglasses, considering you have an mp3 player already - are you really going to watch tv shows/videos on it? so if you like the way you look in the sunglasses (which i think is huge because from personal experience sunglasses are hard to find that actually look really good on a person - my head always looks lopsided) you should just keep them. innocent animals weren't harmed to make the sunglasses :)

i kept my journal on my computer in college, which i loved then. i just find that i no longer write any more so i like having a reason to. plus, i bought myself a pretty blue one with flowers and a magnetic flap to close it which usually i pick up and never buy because i'm like its a journal - i can buy a cheap notebook and it will be exactly the same. i figured it was well worth the $12 investment considering just looking at the journal makes me a little happy :)

peta?

buy a purse with the money!! you have so many ipod things...and thats not spoiling cause youd probably buy that anyway if you wanted it...can i come shopping with you???

i have a new gucci wallet :) my mom bought it for herself in heathrow and described it to me but i didnt want it - and then when i was home she gave it to me - i tried to say no because sometimes i just want my mom to keep the things she buys for herself! but she refused. she was like you do so much for us that i want you to have it...i love it. its very small and just for going out and its nice to have room in my purse!

you have your own blog that you write to for yourself?? i dont think i could do that either...maybe at some point ill give the journal a try but after a while...

sashank and kerry liked seeing you on sunday :) they thought it was really nice of you to just stop by to say hi :) sometimes i love NY for that - granted its only happened like twice in 3 years but still!

im leaving work at 4 today to meet my CFA teacher - i have a few questions for him. then class.

hi!

morning, ladies. i missed a whole day of blogs! here are updates and thoughts on all of it...

vegas- i really want to go, but don't know what my life will look like then. i'm definitely going to india for this religious festival the first 2 weeks of july which mean i may not be up for another trip.. and i may live in india by then.. in which case i definitely won't be able to go. (long story, megan, which i'll explain when i see you).. so vegas is a no. take your boys!

bluetooth- i'm w megan on these.. i hate not knowing when someone is on one of these or talking to themselves.. i have one for my blackberry but it also feels like such a hassle.. i end up holding my bberry in one hand anyway so i might as well just hold it up. some people do really love them.. so maybe you'll have a better time w yours, nush. :)

funk- i've been in one of these too.. i think since i came back from india in november.. part of it is being so happy there and coming back to cold and cynical new york.. but who knows. i DEFINITELY am a journal writing fan.. you don't have to go back and read the sad days (and sometimes if you do, you'll just be like "wow, what was i thinking" and it makes you happier on the good day.. but it's also just nice to force yourself to think about what's right in the world... and writing it down to yourself is a good way to do that.

i have gotten lazy about writing by hand.. i seem to only enjoy doing it on a train or a bus or something but not any other place, so my daily-ish journal is online as a blog since typing is much faster...

other- i gave in and bought very expensive sunglasses... which i love as an item but i put them on and feel like a different person. when i turn my head and can see the shiny lil chanel logo (yes, i know), i kinda freak... like i'm working for peta and wearing a fur coat or something.

i do like how they look though.. more than other sunglasses i've worn.. so i should just get over that, but it's been difficult. i'm gonna return them thursday if i'm not over this by then... and will buy something else fancy for that money.. like a video ipod? :)

3.06.2006

i havent used it yet...

but i think id use it when i was freezing cold and didnt want to hold my phone but still wanted to talk to my mom :)

basically i got it because it cost me 100 for the phone, blue tooth, an extra charger, and a phone for my mom...without blue tooth and the extra charger it would have been free :) it was easy to justify the expense...

thoughts on vegas megan/rupa?

tech calling

if we'd had hands free sets, we would have had to take up a hobby - like knitting or something! and if a computer dialed for us - dude, there would be nothing left to the job except wait for the mean wife to hang up on us!

and why do you need bluetooth?! is it that much of an inconvenience to hold the phone?!?! i have a handsfree thingy, but just to drive with (ny state law) lazy new yorker.

you are wrong - you do like those people!

cause im one of those people :) well i think you can see it - actually i think it looks like a rat is crawling in my ear :) but i dont care. i havent used it yet - this one is personal. i have a wireless one at work too - i feel like a receptionist and at the same time i honestly think that this would have been helpful in my tech calling days :)

when do you use your headset?

is it for work? to talk while you type? or for personal use? are you one of the look like i'm talking to myself but its really a headset covered by my hair/hat people? 'cause i don't like those people (and that goes for julie and rupa if you are those people) i guess it doesn't matter as much in nyc, its just annoying in rochester because you'll be the only two people on the street and the person will just start talking. there is a guy that walks his dog around my neighborhood that i see some times - he really bugs me. our dogs will stop and sniff one another and he'll just be talking away and never really acknowledge me (or maybe he does, and i just assume its part of his other conversation) but its dark out so you never know - you can't judge eye contact and you can't see the wire! his dog seems really sweet but dollop and i tend to only stop for a second because he annoys me.

i just got all my antibodies ordered for tomorrow! well, sort of . . . i wrote them in the order book and gen is taking care of it (she controls all the accounts therefore does all the order placing) thats one of my three things to do today! now, i just need to find a file which may or may not still exist and at 4pm, i need to thaw and plate cells!

vegas/april

if you definitely want to go maybe we can just reserve a room? you can cancel up to 2 days before or something...and if rupa decides to come or edgar/satyan (what do you think of that idea?)

april - i cant take the day off, but i can meet you when you wake up and bring you to any museum you want and get you in for free :)

a journal would be a good idea - i just dont have time for that. jules, do you still write in yours? honestly though on some days i think the entry would be so sad that if i ever read it again it would bring me down..sometimes i think its better not documented...and just let the feeling pass. overall though i think about how much my life has changed in the past year - good and bad - and the good definitely has held through enough to figure out the bad...so im still smiling.

and i just got my blue tooth headset working :)

ok to vegas!

i asked anita and koo if they wanted to too anita said no because of med school stuff, koo said she wanted to but also wanted to visit her sister so it was a money thing - but ekta wanted to . . . which i knew, but i was hesitant to say yeah to ekta. if it was her plus like koo and neubert or something that would be fun, but ekta tends to have random people in tow and i'm not THAT excited about it to deal with ekta AND random people . . .

i know what you mean about sad days :( i've been getting them a lot lately - only i tend to just be mad. everything rubs you the wrong way for no real reason and then two days later your like all fine again - i decided it was stress. which is an easy diagnosis without a solution . . . i got a pretty journal as an attempt to work on it. i thought if i went back to writing in a journal on a fairly regular basis, maybe i'd do a better job recognizing when my mood shift is due to stress and maybe control it. it would be a lot easier if i had just gotten into vet school (i didn't, by the way) so that i could see an end to this job. i think i might finish off my "i'll be here for two years" in August and then just find another lab to work in, not related to this one. i can't handle another season like this past one with eun.

i did get plane tickets - finally! i was attempting for an hour before it was finished. i'm flying down thursday night, arriving at like 11:30pm and returning sunday, leaving nyc at like 8:30. if someone wanted to hang out with me friday - that would be great! but i'd settle for directions to a museum if you guys are working :)

yes to vegas - maybe even if julie and rupa dont go - what do you think megan? if they dont go, want to invite edgar and satyan :) geez im so old and married...

i agree with megan that the carrie email was a reject email - and it just said save the date...but then there was no follow up. no "we are meeting here" email...it was definitely the you are not really invited just wanted to tell you anyway.

megan did you get tickets for julies bday? when are you coming?

want to come for my bday too? i started planning (obviously!) we are going to see a broadway show that julia roberts is in on the thurs before...

i was out thurs and fri - youd think id be recharged after a weekend like that but like my life it was more stressful than relaxing. i went home wed cause my mom got back from india, had apts on thurs, got snowed in, etc etc. came to ny on friday night with my mom, she broke her cell phone, we had to run to verizon to get a new one (i ended up getting the rzr which was exciting) then sat i went to NJ to satyans house, sunday was just a depressing day. i found out parth (remember him?) grandfather passed away. who has lived with them forever so ive known him for a while. then i was just alone in the apt, my hair stuff was bothering me, i cried to sashank all morning cause i dont like to tell my mom when im sad...but the best part is sashank and kerry just jumped in the car to come have dinner with me. it was so nice :)

anyway after a good night sleep im much better and calmer. i think i just lapse into random down days and then im fine and practical abotu the whole thing.

i have two good netflix movies i cant wait to see - breakfast at tiffanys, can you believe ive never seen it? and north country - julie and jackie started it too late for me and i didnt watch with them..did you like it jules???

its 10:30 and i've done NOTHING

i've been here for like an hour and my biggest accomplishment was looking up the name of the lead in that thing you do. and i'm super sleepy because edgar and i stayed too late at the lake house last night and i didn't crawl into my bed until after 2. but i went snowshoeing this weekend! it was fun :)

ok, time to be productive so i can leave as quickly as possible. the secretary that inputs time came in earlier to ask me if my hours were real on my time card - the 19 hour day and the 15 hour day. i mean, i guess it looks weird but dude, i filled out the card - does she think i didn't notice? i think she now thinks i'm crazy.

damnit!

i ALMOST had my flight reserved for julie's birthday! i'm using the 800 # because i have a $25 credit from my last flight to nyc and the woman was all nice and setting it up so i paid the internet price and got the jetblue points and she just needed to get her supervisor and then boom. cut off. and now i'm on hold again but i need to go take my cells out of the centrifuge!

don't offense to the carrie thing

the email was kinda weird - i actually thought that maybe you'd (jules) gotten invited in another way because this email sounded like we were the rejects who would never actually show up - didn't carrie/chirag/jenchen/cohen break up? 'cause both the boys were on the list . . . i figured if i ranked up to an estranged ex-boyfriend, that wasn't exactly a compliment . . .

nush, rupa - vegas?

:)

your blogs made me smile, megan. i love your happy random rambling :) i haven't seen the lisa loeb show that you mentioned, although i've heard of it. i don't watch too much television, though. i only like grey's anatomy. correction: i love grey's anatomy. i'm obsessed with it :) i've definitely never heard of the other show you mentioned with chris o'donnel, and i have no idea who adam goldberg is.

anyway, i'm glad your crazy work days are over. and yes, you should definitely put your foot down! no more going to the lab after 10pm -- that's just crazy.

the carrie email for jen chen's bday thing is so weird. anusha mentioned that she received the invitation last saturday, and i thought it was so weird that i didn't get it. it actually bothers me. i last saw carrie and jen in december, one random night that ekta was in town and i met up with them at a bar. both jen and carrie were really friendly and we all did the usual "i can' t believe we live in the same city and never see each other, let's hang out" bit. if we had a carrie/jen falling out, i sure wasn't aware of it. i know it's silly and i shouldn't let something like this bother me, but it does . . .

sorry meg, but i'm definitely not going to vegas for the class reunion. as fun as it sounds, i've been planning on going to vegas for halloween with jackie, evelyn, jessie aleman, and anyone else who's interested. do any of you want to come?? we started planning it right after last halloween, before i found out that our class reunion would be there. the weekend of our reunion is also the same as jackie's birthday, and i think she'd kill me if i wasn't around to celebrate her birthday, especially after i made her go on a cruise for my birthday last year.

i went to a juanes concert last night! i love doing fun, unexpected things. jackie called me yesterday afternoon saying someone at her work had 2 extra tickets to the juanes concert in jersey, so we could go if we were willing to go through the mission of rushing out of work, getting a car (zipcar, baby!), and driving to newark. . .anyway, the concert was awesome, and we had great seats! it was the same tour that we saw in boston last year, though, and i thought the boston show was better. he was amazing in both shows, but i just think there was a lot more energy and enthusiasm in the boston crowd. anyway, it was great seeing him again. i just love all the lyrics to his songs, and how much he loves colombia and how much he cares about all the problems going on in colombia right now.

i have no crazy weekend plans. i think i've partied a little too much the past couple of weekends, so i'd like to lie low and just relax. the two highlights of my weekend: curious george with jackie and julia, and brunch on sunday with free mimosas and rupa and jackie (and nush if you want to join us)!

whoa, i should get back to work.

wait, i'm not done!

i got an email a while ago from carrie inviting me to jenchen's bday (nush, you were on the email but julie wasn't?) i meant to ask you guys about that . . . i was going to reply to her and be like ahh, too bad i couldn't make it but i'm going to be in nyc for jules bday, we should totally all get together! 'cause i think thats as stupid and fake as her email was (don't get all i know this is a long shot but it would mean soo much to jen! when i haven't heard a peep out of either one of you since graduation except to try to guilt me into submitting something for chirag's stupid scrapbook - chirag and i aren't even close!!! we were friends in college only via proximity!) but then as i was composing the email i was like, wait, did i miss something? maybe there was some big falling out and we don't talk to carrie and jenchen any more so an invite to "totally get together" in april is a major nono . . .

just checking.

no really - i do have work i need to accomplish today! i know it doesn't seem that way when my priorities seem to be blogging and writing emails to girls i could care less about but its just soo exciting not to have to run around because if i walk, my schedule will get messed up and i'll be here until 4 in the morning.

also - i think i am going to put my foot down and say i'm no longer entering the lab after 10pm. i came here yesterday at that time and it was just creepy. i hate that feeling of walking through a dark parking lot to a building that although there are some lights on, you never actually see another person.

lisa loeb

she's one of my new obsessions. i think its a combination of the recently purchased new fiona apple cd (SO GOOD! totally 'megan music' in case any old roommies are craving a little) which reignited my chic music love AND she has a show on E! how was i watching E! when i don't even get the WB you ask? it was while i was staying at my aunt and uncles house in january - the show premiered then. its called #1 single and i've only watched it once but i read the updates weekly on eonline - its a date-umentary! ok, i think i just made that up . . . but 'reality show' has such a bad buzz connected to it and this show just seems so geniune and without normal reality show trauma. and lisa loeb seems like the sweetest woman, totally the star you want to be friends with. and on the first show she went out to lunch with her friend adam goldberg who ok, none of you may know by name but you toally would know the face - he played the creepy roommate when joey moved out on friends. and he was in a very very short lived tv show called head cases with chris o'donnell this season (which was actually really funny, too bad it only lasted like 2 episodes)

as you may be able to guess from my long rambling happy blog, my long hard week is over! i ran the last of those samples last night (couldn't finish in the 9 to 5, had to come in last night for another hour) and my life is FREE until monday . . . when eun wants me to cram in 3 heavy days worth of experiments next week . . . but i think i figured out a way to make it fit within the 9 to 5. . . well, 8 to 5 . . . if i'm really organized and efficient . . . and i don't get any more RSV samples - which i don't think i will . . .

ok, someone else needs to post something!!! like plans for the weekend - any wild partying going on in nyc?

one ps - i found a new favorite song. its called boston girl, its on itunes - the chris something version is a better clip than the push stars (as much as i would want to support the push stars in any way i can)

hey, are we going to vegas for the reunion??? what's the deciding factor or are you guys just totally not into it? 'cause going alone seems like it wouldn't be too fun, but if i can con you three into going with me i think it would be a BLAST and idon't even like gambling :)

ok, now i'm done.

3.01.2006

roommate moved out??

because she wanted to move out or because you asked her? and if its because she wanted to - are you going to look for a new roommate? i know you eventually wanted to live solo . . .

lets see some blogs up in here :)

anyone? i'm sleepy and stressed and sleepy

but my roommmate moved out.. i'm excited to go home to an empty apt.
