Our Founder
Dr. David Shaw is the chairman and chief executive officer of D. E. Shaw & Co., Inc. The author of more than 70 scholarly publications, David received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1980 and served on the faculty of the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University before joining Morgan Stanley & Co. in 1986 as its vice president in charge of automated analytical trading technology.
In 1994, he was appointed by President Clinton to the President’s Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology, in which capacity he served as chairman of the Panel on Educational Technology. David also serves as chairman of Schrödinger, Inc., which produces software used for drug discovery, and of the top-level parent company of Attenuon, LLC, a drug discovery and development firm focusing on the control of cancer. He is also the treasurer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the executive committee of the Council on Competitiveness.
