Work Environment

Our staff includes individuals trained in a variety of disciplines, but sharing a history of extraordinary intellectual and/or professional achievement. It is not uncommon for a lunch conversation to include a discussion of philosophy and a lesson in probability, sometimes to explain the same phenomenon.

We encourage collaboration and the open exploration of ideas. We're a motivated and productive group. Casual dress, flexibility, and informality are the rule; we have no fixed dress code or vacation policy, and most positions have no fixed hours. Many employees feel that the firm provides some of the most important advantages of academia, though with considerably greater rewards.

New hires often enjoy surprising amounts of responsibility. Rather than rely on a rigid training program, we encourage informal mentorships with senior management. The firm’s compensation policies are merit-based and generous, and there are abundant opportunities for rapid professional growth. Two managing directors started in the mailroom, and it's not uncommon for new hires to move between departments. As a result, career paths can be quite flexible, governed primarily by the evolution of an employee’s interests and abilities.
