In many respects, the D. E. Shaw group’s principal product is intellectual property- ideas that will transform current industry practice. Our primary resource for generating those ideas is our intellectual capital- the intelligence, insight, and creativity of our staff. We're looking for people who are so exceptional that they stand out even among accomplished peers.

We offer opportunities for all backgrounds and levels. We hire mathematicians and computer scientists to work with some of the very best minds in these fields, including winners of the Putnam and both the US and International Math Olympiads. We also have opportunities for extraordinary generalists who start with little knowledge of finance but learn the business in house, as many of our employees have done. In fact, some of the firm’s managing directors started at D. E. Shaw with bachelor’s degrees in English, classics, biochemistry, psychology, and Russian studies.
